Barcode Acceptance

Our barcodes can work on Amazon, but Amazon prefers GS1
Many of our client’s products are listed on Amazon. A few have problems with Amazon.
Amazon is increasingly pro-GS1. Amazon is on the board of GS1. Our clients list as unbranded (generic brand). If you wish to list on Amazon as a brand, you must supply your trademark and get your barcodes from GS1.

The following retailer(s) won’t accept our barcodes (they require barcodes to come directly from GS1):
Super Retail Group

The following retailer(s) will accept our barcodes (they also require Verification Reports and/or GLN numbers which we can supply):
Coles
Metcash
Myers
IGA (Some Stores)
Bunnings
Woolworths Australia central branches

All other retailers in Australia to our knowledge accept our barcodes without requiring verification reports.

Shoprite in Africa has some restrictions, and seems to be forcing their suppliers to join GS1. If you plan to sell your products in Shoprite/Checkers/Usave/OK Furniture/House & Home, please talk to them before purchasing barcode numbers – they might force you to join GS1, which is unfortunately very expensive for you and for the retail customer. (NOTE – if Shoprite aren’t going to accept your goods anyway, it is a waste of money to join GS1 – so find out if Shoprite are keen to stock your goods BEFORE you risk joining GS1)

We get various reports of restrictions by distributors in China, So if you plan on selling in China, talk to your distributors to establish if they have any problems with alternative barcode retailer numbers.

All retail stores in Ireland accept our barcode numbers.

The following retailer(s) won’t accept our barcodes (they require barcodes to come directly from GS1):
Super Retail Group
Foodstuffs – please check with them directly to confirm what their barcode requirements are & whether they will accept our barcodes. There are some products with our barcodes in Foodstuffs stores. Some Foodstuffs regions will also give their own barcodes for products (to help get them in stores). Foodstuffs requires barcode verification reports (which we can provide), however they may have other barcode restrictions too.

All other stores in NZ to our knowledge accept our barcodes without the need for verification reports

The FDA in the Philippines require Pharmaceutical companies to buy barcodes directly from GS1

ASDA require Verification Reports (which we can supply)

Tesco require GLN Numbers (which we can supply)

All other stores in the UK seem to accept our barcodes without requiring either Verification Reports or GLN numbers
