Check it before you print
The barcode is one of the smallest costs in a product launch and one of the few that can stop a sale. A duplicate number, an image printed too small, or a symbol a scanner rejects all mean a reprint, and many times what the barcode cost.

If a retailer questions your number
Occasionally a retailer looks up a barcode, finds nothing in GS1’s database, and asks you to prove the number is legitimate.
Free registration on the International Barcodes Database is how you answer that: a public record showing the number belongs to you and your product. It also means a customer scanning your product online or with a phone app finds your company rather than a blank. Optional, and included free either way.
Common questions
Do they work worldwide? Yes. Our numbers were issued through the Uniform Code Council, now GS1 US, before August 2002, when numbers were sold outright rather than licensed annually. They’re read by standard retail scanners worldwide. Acceptance by country.
Any renewal fees? None. One payment, yours permanently.
UPC or EAN? Both, included. Same number, two formats.
