What is a GTIN Assignment Certificate?

Certificate of GTIN assignment

It’s a document we issue confirming that a specific set of barcode numbers has been assigned to you, recording your name, the GTINs and the date. Every retail barcode order includes one at no extra charge. It’s your paper trail if a retailer or distributor asks where your numbers came from.

It is not a trademark, and it doesn’t replace GS1 membership where a retailer requires it. A few large chains will only take barcodes issued directly by GS1, and a certificate makes no difference to them. See barcode acceptance for the full picture.

It’s also separate from barcode registration, which is optional and adds your product details to the International Barcodes Database.
