How to Get a Barcode for Your Product
Retail barcode numbers can be purchased on our Retail Barcodes page, where you can choose either EAN-13 or UPC-A barcodes. UPC-A codes are primarily used in the USA and Canada. EAN-13 barcodes are the preferred format of retail barcode in the rest of the world. For an overview, see An Introduction to Retail Barcodes.
What’s Included in Your Barcode Package?
With a standard retail barcode package, we’ll email you:
- A unique EAN-13 or UPC-A barcode number
- A guarantee certificate
- Barcode images in four formats: JPEG, PDF, PNG, and SVG
- Optional Barcode Registration
Simply add the barcode image to your product packaging. Once the product reaches a retailer, they’ll scan it into their system with the relevant details. From then on, the barcode links automatically to your product information at checkout.
Barcode Size and Placement
The standard retail barcode size is 37.29 x 25.93 mm, but it can be reduced to 80% of this size (approximately 30 x 20 mm) without affecting scanning. However, some retailers require the barcode to meet standard dimensions, so keeping it close to the original size is recommended. Full specifications are available here.
