Novak Applied Technologies
Based in Michigan, USA, Novak Applied Technologies creates safe products from recycled materials. It works directly with Midland Recyclers to process recycled items on-site and transform them into useful everyday products.
The team at Novak has spent the last year developing and testing everything from paint additives to all-natural pesticides. In 2023, the small business recycled 57,000 pounds of glass from Midland County, using the recycled glass to make kitty litter. They use a safe process that returns the material to beach sand.
Duane Novak has donated more than 2,500 pounds of the litter to the Humane Society of Midland County and 300 pounds to the Cozy Cats Café in Sanford. He also donated a bag to go home with each cat adopted from the café.
The recycled glass also generated four mediums of Voodoo Grit for sandblasting. Duane explained that the different mediums have other purposes. The coarser medium strengthens concrete, while another grain fights bed bugs.
A nonslip additive to latex paint and a paint thickener are expected later this year. The company hopes to expand its manufacturing of recycled plastic products.
